Day 7 - Archeology VIP Passes

*Ein Gedi *Masada *Dinner at Center 1 *Israel Museum

The plan was to climb Masada like every tour group does. However, Peter put a surprising twist onto the day; he got us an "appointment" with Dr. Guy, the head archaeologist of the Masada dig that had started the day before!

Use the link below to read an article about the dig:

We were given a tour of a newly started archaelogical dig on the top of Masada. Dr. Guy Stiebel, Director of Excavations, explained the whole procedure and even showed us some of the excavations. -Aliza Engle (In picture on right)

The archaeological dig was amazing to see because they hadn't dug there in years. Finally, they were able to start another dig project, and they were uncovering our history right in front of our eyes. -Rochel Brekan

Right next to Masada is the historical oasis of Ein Gedi. It was a beautiful day to visit, and we even took a quick splash in the famous waters.

The amount of times we were told not to run or to just suppress our inner five-year old was overwhelming. So the millisecond before our resident mother and tour guide, Malka Touger, finished saying we could go, I was off. And by G-d, the little boys got nothing on me. I pelted to a gorgeous spring and jumped in with the zealous joy of a 3-year old at bath time. Safe to say, it was one of the most liberating experiences ever, but was ever so slightly stress inducing as well.

I never expected to be as amazed as I was when I saw Ein Gedi as we walked through the gates. Each step we took was more and more beautiful! The views, the rocks, the waterfall - it was all so breathtaking! Ein Gedi was definitely my favorite part of the trip. -Shaindel Freedman

The day ended with a guided tour of The Israel Museum, Israel's national museum. It is the largest cultural institution in the State of Israel and one of the leading art and archaeology museums in the world.

The Israel Museum was full of interesting and unique art that was super cool. -Tzipporah Oster
